Repackaging our articles in to ebooks creates new ways we can distribute our content.
One the last two pages of this article we talked about publishing our articles on our web site, and other people's websites.
Let's continue our quest to make maximum use of our content.
On this page we'll put our articles in to a different package, and thus create new opportunities to maximize the ways our words can work for us.
Ebooks Are More Portable For Readers
Let's take a group of related articles and bundle them in to an ebook.
An ebook is of course a single file that can contain many pages of text. Packaging a number of different articles in one file makes our articles more portable.
Imagine we just arrived at a 100 page website that looks interesting, but we don't have the time to read it all right now. We can bookmark the site, but it's not a sure thing we'll return to use the bookmark, as thousands of other sites are competing for our attention.
Suppose the author offered the same content in an ebook form? Now we can immediately download all the articles to our desktop with one click. This convenience increases the chance we will read the articles, and form a bond with the author.
Once we have the ebook on our local computer, we also have the option to quickly print all the articles at once. Nobody wants to print a 100 page website, one page at a time.
Many of us prefer print to long hours of reading on a monitor. And once the book is printed, we can take it off the Net, and out of the office. This flexibility again increases the chance we'll read the book, and share it with others.
Ebooks Are More Portable For Webmasters
Packaging our articles in ebook form could make it easier to share our content with other webmasters.
Imagine someone offers to let us publish 100 of their articles on our site. We're probably thinking...
"Ok, cool, thanks, but wow, I don't have time right now to HTML 100 articles for my site."
But if the same content arrives in ebook form, now we're only adding one link to one file. A thousand times easier, we'll do it!
It we can make it easier for other webmasters to share our content with their readers, their readers are more likely to become our readers as well.
We Can Give Ebooks As Gifts
For the convenience reasons above, and for other more complicated psychological reasons, content packaged in ebooks sometimes seems more valuable to readers than the same content presented on a website.
Even though an ebook is just a computer file, just like a website, an ebook can be perceived as a "thing" that we can download, own and possess.
We can leverage this perceived added value by giving the ebook away on our site. Nobody really cares that our site is free, but giving away a free ebook may strike our readers as an interesting offer that is appreciated.
We can give the ebook away as an incentive or reward that encourages readers to join our forum, subscribe to our mailing list, buy some other product, and so on.
We Can Sell Our Ebooks
Finally, packaging content in ebooks make it easier to sell that content, for the reasons explored above.
The most obvious benefit here is the direct income from sales, but there are other possibilities too.
We could create an affiliate program, and give other webmasters a percent of each sale. Now we've give these webmasters a more compelling financial incentive to link to our site, and promote our content.
We could allow selected webmasters we're partnered with to give away our ebook as an incentive or bonus to their customers, building our relationship with these webmasters, and increasing our audience yet again.
As you can see, putting articles we've already written in to a new package can open up some new opportunities, and help these articles work harder for us.
On the next page of this article we'll examine another way to repackage the same articles, for additional benefits.
